Dental Implants for New Hampshire and Maine - Implant Dentistry Specialist, Dr. Richard Liu

Are you missing one or more teeth and seeking a natural-looking, comfortable, permanent means of restoring your smile? If so, consider dental implants, as so many other New England residents have after consulting with implant dentistry specialist Dr. Richard Liu. Dental implants look and function just like natural teeth and provide a potentially ideal alternative to partial dentures and bridges.

Read on to learn more about dental implants at our New Hampshire practice and the tremendous benefits that implant dentistry can offer you:

What are dental implants?

Dental implants from our centrally located New England office can be used to replace an entire tooth or multiple teeth. And as we all lost teeth as children, we know that a tooth is not just what you see above the gum line. A natural tooth is made up of a crown-the part of the tooth that you see-and a root, which anchors the tooth to the jawbone through the gum tissue. A dental implant is essentially a new root, to which a replacement crown is attached. The new root is made out of titanium and is surgically placed into a socket created in your jaw. Because the artificial root is covered by a synthetic bone material, it bonds with the jawbone and creates a strong fixture to which the new crown is finally attached.

How does the implant procedure work?

After the posts are implanted, the healing process can take up to six months for dental implants, implant dentistry patients will need to return so a healing cap can be attached to the implant. The healing cap holds the future place of the support post, to which the crown will be attached a few weeks later.

In addition to the two-part implant procedure at our New Hampshire office, another implant dentistry method we use involves the attachment of the healing cap during the original implant surgery. This allows you to save time and avoid the second surgery normally needed to complete your dental implants. During your dental implant consultation with dentist Richard Liu, he will help you determine which method of implant dentistry will work best for you, and provide you with the best results.

Are temporary teeth used while my dental implants are healing?

While your dental implants are healing, temporary removable teeth or bridges can be made available until your implants are ready for the final crowns. The decision to go with a temporary solution depends on your needs.

Will my mouth reject the dental implants?

No. Unlike donor organs, dental implants cannot be rejected by your body. Your replacement root will be made of thoroughly tested, biologically safe titanium.

How long will my dental implants last?

While it is impossible to know exactly how long any one implant will last, studies have shown that dental implants can last for more than 30 years. Compared to the relatively short life of dentures and bridges, dental implants provide a much better long-term solution. After they receive their dental implants, many of our Maine and New Hampshire implant dentistry patients nearly forget they have them.
